Effect of Deep Hypothermia on Open Heart Surgery
Abstract
In five dogs the experimental open heart surgery was conducted under the hypothermia combined with the extracorporeal circulation.
Deep hypothermia with the method of total circulatory occlusion were adapted and the hemodynamic and electrolyte change were observed during the experimental period.
Total circulatory occlusion could be maintained for about 30 minutes without severe derangement of hemodynamic hematologic, and electrolyte equilibrium.
The above results are seem reasonable to conclude that the extracoporeal circulation combined with the hypothermia can logically be adapted for the intracardiac surgery in infants with resultant clinical effect better than any other methods available.
